The Equines

The Reason ...

We rescue so this doesn't turn into that...

The Equines at the rescue come in all shapes and sizes, representing a vibrant spectrum much like a rainbow. From spirited riding horses to vulnerable foals and wise elders, each one has a unique story. Many arrive suffering from neglect, some utterly untouched, while others once basked in the glory of the show ring. Despite the closure of the last horse slaughterhouse in the United States in 2007, the threat remains real. Horses continue to be exported for slaughter to Mexico and Canada, and a troubling black market for horse slaughter persists within our borders. Every horse that finds itself at an auction, given away for free, or sold cheaply is in jeopardy, as ruthless buyers operate in the shadows, much like those who exploit and harm animals for entertainment. The slaughter buyers have ways of operating which build a belief that they have the horses' best interest at heart. Rescues, like us, play a vital role in safeguarding these vulnerable creatures from a grim fate.

Our mission is to keep them out of that pipeline.

Whether its an owner surrender, a $200 auction horse, or animal control seizure, they all deserve a chance at a good life.

A life free from a torturous end.
